About Ivory Guild Art Classes

 Students develop strong observational drawing skills through sight-size measurement, comparative measurement, shading, and perspective. Classes balance structured studies that refine technique with independent creative projects, allowing students to progress at their own pace. Tailored instruction is provided for each student's skill level. Open to teens and adults, enrollment includes three additional hours of weekly open studio time for independent work. Classes are limited to five students to ensure individualized feedback and support. 

 Building upon the observational drawing skills developed in Cast Drawing I and II, this course introduces students to the principles of representational painting through monochromatic cast studies. Working from plaster casts, students learn paint handling, value control, edge relationships, and methods for translating form and light into paint. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of structure, proportion, and three-dimensional form while working within a limited palette. Through a combination of structured studies and individualized instruction, students establish the technical foundation necessary for more advanced color painting.  Building upon the observational drawing skills developed in Cast Drawing I & II and the careful application of paint in Cast Painting. This course introduces students to the fundamentals of color painting through still-life observation. Students learn color mixing, value relationships, paint handling, edges, and composition while applying the principles of measurement, form, and light established in their drawing studies. Classes balance structured technical exercises with independent painting projects, allowing students to develop both technical proficiency and creative confidence. Students learn the principles of proportion, anatomy, gesture, structure, and value while developing an understanding of the human form in space. Through a combination of short studies and longer-term projects, students refine their ability to accurately represent the figure and capture likeness, movement, and form. Emphasis is placed on observational accuracy, draftsmanship, and the application of measurement techniques learned in earlier courses.
